The following comments were made by doctors at the OBGYN.net Women's Health Forum.

I decided to include the web sites for each message; because, in order to understand the comments made by each physician, I decided it would be helpful for the reader to be able to read each message too.

1.) " Re: Wierd Question - Not Sure If Relative " -- responded to by: Bernard Cristalli, MD: " The recurrence of those adhesions is quite possible. Another laparoscopy? "

2.) " Re: INFERTILITY DUE TO C-SECTION MISTAKE " -- responded to by: D. Ashley Hill, MD: "This is really 2 questions: What are the chances of adhesions forming, and if they do, what are the chances of infertility? Unfortunately, I cannot completely answer either.

The only way to determine how many women get adhesions after a c/section is to reoperate on every single one of them about a year later. This is not ethically or financially possible.

Plus, we don't know why two women having a c/section on the same day ( for example ) will have different responses to the surgery. One might develop massive adhesions, whereas the other develops none.

I can tell you that adhesion formation is a huge medical problem that causes considerable discomfort for many women. Each surgery increases the opportunity for adhesion formation. This is yet another reason why most of us advocate VBAC over a repeat c/section. Neither, however, is risk-free."

3.) " Re: laparoscopy with lysis of adhesions right and ovarian " -- responded to by: Bernard Cristalli, MD: " Adhesions may be due to a previous surgical operation, to an infection ( pelvic inflammatory disease ) or to endometriosis."

4.) " Re: What causes adnexal scaring? " -- responded to by: Harvey S. Marchbein, MD: " Simple question, simple answer. Any infectious or inflammatory process. "
