1.) "Re: HSG test under anesthetic due to adhesions in cervix"...responded to by William D. McIntosh, MD: "There are several reasons why you may have intrauterine adhesions, such as prior surgery or infection, or even as a sequelae of pregnancy. This could affect your ability to get pregnant. This could also explain menses limited to spotting. Your physician will help you get to the bottom of this."

2.) "Re: Adhesions & Walking"...responded to by James Connerth, MD: "Know of no studies that show early ambulation will reduce adhesion formation. A certain subset of patients seem very prone to develop adhesions and these will often occur after repeated surgeries. Many interesting debates now ongoing on OB/GYN.net regarding this problem. Walking and early ambulation after major pelvic surgery has been shown to decrease blood clots and the dreaded lung embolus."

3.) "Re: Acute Appendicitis Affecting Fertility - is this common knowledge?...responded to by George: "No, appendicitis does not usually affect pelvic organs -- BUT -- an appendicoele abscess CAN cause adhesions, etc., which WILL affect the function of the ovaries. YOU had the abscess.

"Sounds to me like you need a Lapscope exam of your pelvis. Adhesions cannot only be diagnosed, but they can be cut ( lysed ) through the quarter inch incision in your abdomen."

4.) "Re: Ovary trapped by adhesions?"...responded to by George: "PULLING ON THE OVARIES ( OR TESTICLES ) CAN GIVE ONE NAUSEA. LAPSCOPE COULD SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM. PELVIC EXAM SHOULD ELICIT PAIN ON BIMANUAL EXAM."

5.) "Re: adhesions, granulated tissue ????"...responded to by George: "How to tell if pain is from trapped nerve and/or adhesions. You can't

"Granulation tissue is not an adhesion. It usually doesn't hurt.

"Adhesions of themselves usually do not hurt. It is only when they pull on, or, obstruct an organ that the organ causes the pain.

"Looking with Lapscope might give you an answer. OR - - carefully opening up the top of the vagina could also help. ( This must be done very carefully because bowel, etc., may be stuck to top of vagina. ) Lapscope is safer. Open abdominal procedure may be needed to free you from pain."

6.) "Re: Dr. George please read and assist"...responded to by George: "I don't profess to be an expert in 'adhesions'...but I have had many years experience with GYN surgery and I was always aware of the possibility. It seems that people differ in their propensity to form adhesions post operative. The main thing I did was to be very careful with the handling of tissues, wash gloves free of any starch, leave a liquid wetting agent in the abdominal cavity prior to the closure of the wound.

"Even then, some people formed adhesions. I think they have 'collagen' that is different from those who do not form adhesions.

"Not much of an answer -- best I can do."

7.) "Re: pelvic adhesion"...responded to by George: "NO! The adhesions will not ' strangle the ovary;' BUT they will alter the blood supply often increasing the supply ) and thereby alter the temperature of the ovary. This change can affect ovarian function."
