David, Any type of surgery can cause adhesions. Adhesions can cause great pain. The pain many times causes a person not to be able to do anything, it can be dibilitating. There was a time that my pain was so bad that I couldn't even lift a coffee craff, because it felt like I was trying to lift a ton. Hope this information helps. Robin
