Dear Jean, I don't think I've ever burned wood that was usable for anything else. My husband makes his own doors, windows, etc. so everything that can be used is, though there is always some left over, some buggy, some with huge knots, some that didn't grow straight, etc. It's a big deal to heat everything with wood, a lot of work, we're getting too old for this. But I do love a wood fire. We still cook breakfast on an old wood stove in the morning. It's quite romantic for the guests. ( We also cheat and have other commercial ovens) And I heat our bedroom with a wood stove. I used to carry armloads of wood up 3 1/2 flights of stairs. A pain in the you/hoo. That's more than you wanted to know. Sorry. Love ya, Sally
