Saw my pain specialist yesterday and tried to give him he** in my own timid way. He was the one who got upset and offended. I told him I have been seeing him for over a year, he has tried numerous meds and nothing has worked but he wouldn't try the ones like oxycontin that other people say do work, for fear I would become tolerant to it. He just came unglued..."You want oxycontin? Fine..here it is." He also said it isn't as strong as the duragesic patch I was on. I asked if there would be a problem going off the patch and he said just leave the one I was wearing on for a few extra days. Start with the oxycontin and that would help with the withdrawal symtoms from the patch. Sound Right? He also took away the topamax; cold turkey. He said since I seemed unhappy with him I should get another opinion and find another pain doctor. (like there is one on every street corner) There are only 2 pain clinics in my whole state and I have an appt with the other one for Jan 7. Does anyone have any experience comparing the duragesic patch with oxycontin? My patch was 50 and the oxycontin is 40 mg twice per day. Also if I do experience withdrawal symptoms any advice on handling them? I hate these Dr.s!! You feel like you have to kiss their butt to keep them prescribing pain meds for you. Why shouldn't I be able to let them know I am not happy with them without being told I am no longer wanted as a patient. That should be against their ethics or something!
