Dear Kath:
I did a search on Yahoo on "pelvic clearance" (with quotations around
it). While I did find the article that you referred to, most of the
sites were for cancer, mainly ovarian cancer. This treatment that your
Dr. is recommending appears (to me) to be a treatment often used for
advanced ovarian cancer - they remove many organs so that if the cancer
has microscopically spread they get most or all of it.
Now I'm not a doctor, and I don't even pretend to know anything about
adhesions, but I pray that you'll get yourself to an adhesion specialist
before you do something irreversible.
It is only suspected that I have adhesions, but if I do they were caused
by a laparotomy to remove an organ. The idea that a major surgery with
a large incision and removal of organs will help a person with adhesions
just doesn't fly with me. Kath, I think you really need to get a second
and possibly third opinion before you do something that will definetly
change your life, but maybe not for the better.
I know and understand that you want the pain to stop - or at least
improve - but please listen to the women on this forum with their
"retro-scopes". Please go to Karla's story on the adhesions quilt, read
it, and when you're done, please read it again....
