Christy, As you have now heard from so many, and I too will add to that list. OMG there is so many things adhesions can attach too its scary, and scarier that each time we go back in for surgery doctor says yup got em all you should be adhesion and pain free.. NOT! Then to add to it being scary how can we know all this and doctors not, and there the ones treating us. You know the think the stupidest surgeon I was referred to once told me adhesions don't cause pain, My mouth just fell open, and I knew that this was not the surgeon I wanted anything to do with. When I went back to my GYN doctor and he asked how the consult went, and I told him what he said he just shook his head disgust and said Sorry some doctors just still have this way of thinking.

Hugs Christy

Dear Christy,

I am becoming increasingly frustrated by the amount of misinformation regarding adhesions that is being espoused from the so called medical profession! May I suggest you start running away from this doctor now!! Just because your reproductive organs are gone doesn't mean that adhesions will not form eslwhere!

Adhesions will and do form in all sorts of places you wouldn't expect, and if you still have a bladder Christy, I can almost guarantee you through my own personal experience that you probably have adhesions surrounding that poor organ. My ovaries had been surrounded by scar tissue after my hystorectomy and pulled down into the lower reaches of my abdominal cavity and the adhesions clung spider web like from my bladder, 5 different places on my bowel, my vaginal wall and then lets not leave out the abdominal wall.

Christy PLEASE read the information available regarding the formation of adhesions on the IAS web site, THEN PLEASE read the stories posted on the quilt, adhesions will attach to any organ or surface within your body that has had surgery, infection or a trauma (such as being struck heavily by something in a car accident for example.)

Adhesions form when an organ or area within your body has been "contaminated" by a "foreign body", this could be a surgical instrument brushing up against an organ, a burst appendix or ovarian cyst, which then "contaminates" the area within or as I mentioned above it could be through trauma. Scar tissue is like our organs "body guard" and forms a protective coating around the irritated surface to protect the organ from the foreign matter. Even blood spilled in the abdominal cavity during surgery will be received as foreign material by our own bodies defence mechanism.

I have a friend who has had two surgeries this year due to adhesions attched to her liver, during the first surgery it was discovered that the adhesions had actually pulled a corner of the liver over until it was folded over itself. If any doctor tells you that there is no where left for adhesions to form is a quack & I say, get another doctor TODAY.

If you have any questions regarding my description, please ask away either post your question on the board, or email me directly at wallamara@hotmail.com

Remember I am not a medical person, just a fellow adhesion sufferer trying to stop others from following in my footsteps and finding out about the realities of surgery the hard way.

Love & gentle warm hugs

Jo (Australia)
