Re: 'antidepressants'

Amitriptoline didn't help me at all and actually kept me awake all night long. My GYN precribed it for me while I was screaming about the pain going on inside my abdomen and evidently this is the best she could do. She told me that this would help me sleep (ha, ha). I couldn't stand the stuff and threw it away as it made me very jumpy and agitated and, as I said, I couldn't sleep at all. The effexor (antidepressant) I was prescribed, I was told was to help me with my fibromyalgia and it actually has taken some of the pain away from my leg and arm pain. The effexor was not prescribed as an antidepressant at all but for my fibromyalgia. I don't understand how antidepressants work, as the effexor helped with the leg and arm pain, and made no difference in my mood . I saw that someone else said that effexor helped them, so you may want to suggest effexor if they insist on an antidepressant.
