post surgical adhesions

My mother is a 75 year old, otherwise healthy woman, who has been
sufferring from lower left abdominal pain following a recent (about 4-5
years ago)bit of surgery to remove her left ovary. Almost immediately,
within a few months, pain from adhesions occurred, surgery has been
ruled out unless there is a bowel obstruction, and the only kind of pain
relief prescribed, which is only minimally effective, is Tylenol with
codeine. Any suggestions by anyone on any better methods of obtaining
relief from this horrible pain?
