Welcome!! The pain maybe caused by adhesions. If they are on your intestines, & your intestines are being strained, it can cause pain until everything is past that point.

As far as your friend goes, adhesions don't ever soften up. They get older & denser, & harder & shorter & pull on the organs they are attached to, that is what causes the adhesion pain. The only way to get rid of adhesions is through surgery. But surgery can & will cause adhesions. Surgery should only be done with a specialist.
