It warms my heart to know...for Dawn ... and for others

Dear Dawn,

I'm sooo proud of you!!! It warms my heart to know that the information I've posted has helped you to become assertive enough to - first of all - help yourself...and then to "educate" a doctor, such as the doctor in Boston!!

Your observations about the doctor in Boston were correct!! IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) is a very lucrative source for the doctor in Boston and other gynecologic specialists!!

The best endometriosis specialists do NOT prescribe Lupron. For six months - drug therapy (with a drug such as Lupron) does help to suppress endometriosis; but after the Lupron is stopped, the patient is back to square one - and probably experiences more pain than before taking Lupron!!

Also, during the 6 months of Lupron drug therapy, there are so many terrible side-effects caused by this drug!! Perhaps someone, who has been treated with Lupron, will want to share their experience with Lupron drug therapy.

You are right, Dawn!! A hysterectomy will NOT cure endometriosis!! In fact, having a hysterectomy WILL cause adhesions to form. ALL surgical procedures will cause adhesions!! Any blood or other debris - left within the abdominal/pelvic cavity after a surgical procedure - will cause adhesions to form. Adhesions result when the human body attempts to heal and protect itself following any kind of trauma (such surgery, etc.) This is a completely natural and normal process!!

Endometrial implants - caused by endometriosis - will bleed into the body cavity at the same time as a woman has her menstrual period. What happens to this blood? Blood is an irritant to the intra-abdominal cavity!! When any of this irritating substance occurs within the body cavity, the body sends out its army to encapsulate the blood, which causes affected internal surfaces to stick together. The result is: the formation of adhesions!!

Did you know that ovarian cysts can also cause adhesions to form? Yes, that's true!! When an ovarian cyst ruptures, a substance oozes from the ovary into the body cavity. This subtance is an irritant - and another cause of adhesions!!

A ruptured appendix is a very serious matter; because when the appendix ruptures and its contents spill into the body cavity, this has the potential to cause peritonitis - which is an emergency situation!!

It is my hope that your friends and relatives will be successful in raising the necessary funds to go to Frankfurt, Germany for surgery. Lisa Gravens had such a positive experience following her surgery at Frankfurt!! Her experience - in traveling to Germany for surgery - will make it easier for you and anyone else who might be interested in seeking surgery in Germany.

This month (September 2002) Dr. Daniel Kruschinski and Dr. Harry Reich will be opening the very first International Endo, ARD and Myoma Center at Frankfurt, Germany. Both surgeons are highly skilled and very experienced laparoscopic surgeons!! Not only will they be performing surgeries; but they will also be sharing/teaching surgeons (from around the world) the special techniques they have developed - techniques that have proven to lessen the re-formation of adhesions.

"It must be terribly expensive to travel to Germany for surgery?" Actually, surgery is LESS expensive than in the United States!! Some insurances will pay for out-of-country medica/surgical care. This is something you will want to ask your insurance representative about. Medicare and Medicaid do NOT pay for out-of-country medical/surgical expenses!!

Regarding Angel Flight: I'm not sure; but I think their services are limited to the United States.

Dawn, I hope the fund-raising efforts - for your trip to Germany for surgery - will be swift and successful!! You are an inspiration to others!!

My best wishes to you!!

Helen
