Our mission is far from being completed...Here are three excellent adhesion websites

Victims of Adhesion Related Disorder (ARD) suffer from a disorder that isn't even recognized by the medical community as being either a disease or a disorder. If the medical community does not recognize ARD as being a medical condition that can cause intractable pain -- then how in the world will they be able to offer compassionate help to people, who suffer from ARD? Basically, they don't know how to treat the symptoms of ARD - and as a result many medical professionals remain in denial!!

Of course, this doesn't apply to ALL medical professionals!! There are many medical professionals, who uphold the Hippocratic Oath - and are doing their very best to help ARD people, who are experiencing great suffering. Where are they? They are out there; but you're going to have to search and search until you find that special doctor - a doctor, who will believe what you tell him/her and will do his/her best to try to help you.

Based on my experience with ARD, I know this is not an easy task; because it took me many years to find the endometriosis specialist, who validated my painful experience by agreeing to perform the diagnostic laparoscopy that finally proved that massive adhesions were the cause of debilitating pain I had suffered with for more than 27 years!!!

This is why it is so important for victims of ARD to educate themselves!! Some of you have already printed-out information about ARD and have taken copies of this information to your medical professionals. This is a super excellent idea!! I hope MANY MORE of you will consider doing the same thing!!!

The letter-writing campaign for the recent NATIONAL INVISIBLE CHRONIC ILLNESS AWARENESS WEEK (September 23-29, 2002) is a very effective way of educating relatives, friends, medical professionals, etc. I hope many of you will consider a letter-writing campaign of your own. This can be done at any time - and doesn't need to be confined to just one week.

In Anthea's message today she said, "Many of you have stepped up to the plate and I urge you all to continue this important effort. Our mission is far from being completed." Joanne Eslick's "Letter to the Editor" was inadvertantly NOT published during that special awareness week; BUT Jo is determined to get it published - and she will!!

I have contacted a reporter from an area newspaper. She will be interviewing me next week for a feature article about the International Adhesions Society. This newspaper reaches thousands of subscribers - and I'm sure her feature article will have a big impact!!

So, how about it? Have I convinced you that you too can write a Letter to the Editor? I hope so!!
