INTRODUCTIONFreya, the infertility support association, promotes the interests of individuals who have fertility problems and/or who are facing unwanted childlessness. We provide printed materials, as well as information over the telephone and the Internet. We also organize support group meetings and theme gatherings for couples confronted with infertility.
In addition, we maintain contacts with hospitals, insurance companies, politicians and the media in order to keep abreast of the latest issues and developments and to effectively promote the interests of our target group.
Freya was established in 1985 as the 'Nederlandse Vereniging voor Reageerbuisbevruchting' (NVRB) or the Dutch Association for In-Vitro Fertilization. In 1995, the Board of Management decided to change the association's name to 'Freya - infertility support association', to better reflect the expansion of our objective to include the entire gamut of fertility problems. The name Freya is taken from the Norwegian goddess of fertility, conquest and peace.
Freya is an independent, national association with more than 3,000 members, each of whom receive 'Freya Magazine'. Published five times a year, this magazine contains news, (medical) articles, personal stories and announcements.
The association is largely run by volunteers. Two part-time paid employees work at the secretariat.
