Is it possible that this is cervical mucous from ovulation? This mucous starts 4-6 days before ovulation, and continues for one day after. Then you will get your period 2 weeks after ovulation, so looking back you can usually nail the timings. At ovulation the cervix pulls up and opens a little, and the cervical mucous changes consistency so that sperm can stay alive in there until you ovulate. The cervical cells are very delicate, and will sometimes break a few blood vessels as they open up. Then with the copious "egg-white" consistency of the mucous, a few drops of blood will easily get carried out of the body.

Mechanically, this process is somewhat similar to losing your mucous plug in early labor, and the blood is like "bloody show" that appears at the beginning of labor.
