Regarding amyitriptylene: it is an old antidepressant that is frequently now prescribed for chronic pain. Its main side effects many people is drowsiness, urinary retention, and constipation. I take 50 mg at night. I do feel very groggy in the morning, but at least I do sleep for 7-8 hours. You must stay on top of preventing constipation. Drink 8-10 glasses of water a day, eat lots of fiber, etc. I use to have a problem with consitpation from this med, but my pain is so severe now, I have the opposite effect - one or two large ex0plosive stools per day. Sorry to gross anyone out, but we are talking about our messed up bodily functions here. mary lou
