1.) Pathogenesis: How deposition of fibrin leads to adhesion formation....."Under the ischemic conditions present after surgical trauma, fibrinolytic activity is suppressed, which results in persistence of the fibrin bands. Once the fibrin bands are infiltrated with fibroblasts, they become organized to form what are clinically identified as adhesions."

2.) Why do adhesions form?.....Scroll down to read: " Some of the causes of adhesion formation are: Trauma, Ischemia, Foreign Bodies, Hemorrhage, Raw Surfaces, Infection."

3.) Adhesion Answers....." Endometriosis is one possible cause of pelvic adhesions. Surgery is another, but you don’t mention having prior surgery, so we’ll eliminate that one. Infections such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) can cause adhesions. Some adhesions are even thought to be congenital, meaning you’re born with them."

But radiation therapy can cause moderate to severe adhesion formation, attaching organs to other organs, muscles, bones, connective tissues and their support structures. When this happens, organs can lose their ability to function normally, causing a variety of symptoms. When nerves are involved, pain results.

" Radiation therapy can cause adhesions to form at the sites of cancer treatment or surrounding tissues. Symptoms sometimes appear far from the site of the original trauma. Inflammation following trauma or radiation therapy may cause adhesions to spread to neighboring organs unless they are removed or diminished by a physician or therapist trained to treat them."

5.) Adhesions....." Adhesions can cause major problems with fertility. Although adhesions can be removed at surgery, surgery can also cause adhesions. The more damage there is during surgery, the greater the chance that adhesions will occur."
