Dalene...Re: Adhesions and depression

Dear Dalene,

I know what you mean about trying different things. I feel like we have tried it all: Deep pelvic massage, accupressure, tens units, hot tub, non-narcotics, and the only thing somewhat working is the narcotics. I wanted my doctor to know that I was trying other things. Within about 2 hours of the deep pelvic massage I was in severe pain. I sleep sandwiched between 2 heating pads and am usually connected to them all day. My skin on my upper left thigh and tummy looks like a giraffe's coat in reverse. The patches look lighter than the outline. My back looks like this too but not as bad.

The surgeon gave me some medicine called Zelnorm used for IBS patients who have the main complaint of constipation. I took 3 doses of it. It made me sick as a dog. From 12:30 a.m. Friday night until 9 a.m. Saturday morning I was doubled over in severe cramps and having diarrhea like water. I sat on the toilet for over 45 minutes at a time and as soon as I laid down, I had to jump up and run right back to the bathroom. I got the information packet fromt the medication that was inside the box. It said "You should not take this medication if you have abdominal adhesions causing pain and/or intestinal blockage." There were a few other reasons not to take it as well, but that it the one that hit me right between the eyes. I was so mad! I ended up in bed in excruciating pain all weekend. I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but if I have diarrhea, cramping, or take a laxative that makes me do so, my adhesion pain multiplies greatly. I guess because my adhesions are all along my small bowel, transverse and descending colons, rectum, and attached to my bladder. So any time I have peristalsis movement in excess, I am in alot more pain than I usually am. Anyway, I emailed that surgeon with a copy of what that information packet said. He told me that he was sorry and he had given that medication to several other patients with the same symptoms and adhesions and they had no side effects from the medication. Needless to say, I will never take that again. It is supposed to increase the peristalsis of the colon so you can have regular BMs. I guess in my case, it caused too much.

I didn't know that the doctors would charge you just to review your files. Dr. Gerhart has my files and didn't charge me. We were trying to get my insurance to approve out-of-network expenses so I could go to PA and have surgery with him. They denied it of course and said that there should be someone in network who can provide the same benefits. The problem is they can't even tell me who that someone is and neither can my PCP. So it is off to Germany I go, even if it takes me several years to raise the money! Anyway, I hope that you can get some help and some relief. For now, I think I am going to try Klenz Tea that was recommended to me by one of my adhesion friends. She says her doctor checked it out and it is all natural and will help with the constipation. I hate having to say that I am full of it! Kind of embarrassing!

Dalene, I know that you want to do this on your own. And I understand that. I am a giver and it is sooooo hard for me to receive things from others because I want to be the one helping out. Think of it this way though. God blesses us when we give. He wants all of His children to be blessed. If you do not receive something that someone is trying to bless you with, then you could be robbing that person of their blessing. God will bless that person back. There are times when we are to give, but there are also times when we need to receive. God may be trying to bless you. I know it is not His will to see any of us hurting. SO if someone wants to bless you, receive it, be blessed, and know that they are going to be blessed back for what they gave. I hope this helps you. Take care of yourself and keep in touch.

Love and hugs, Jenny
