I've tried amitriptilyne and it did increase my tolerance to pain. I
say that because it did not relieve the pain, but it seemed not to
bother me as much. However, it made me very lethargic. I had a tough
time dragging myself out of bed in the morning and it took a while to
get going. The benefit was that I slept like a baby and was very
comfortable at night. I did not take it with codiene. It is an
antidepressant, not a pain reliever.
I did not keep it up long term, but there definitely was advantages and
disadvantages. Good luck with it. Maybe the lethargy won't be so bad
for you.
