I knew very little about the human anatomy. I was actually illiterate about it - and there weren't any stores such as B.Dalton or Barnes and Noble Bookstores (prior to and including 1970)
I felt confident that by undergoing surgery, the surgeon would be able to locate the source of the pain that was preventing me from enjoying a pain-free life. I was convinced surgery would be the answer - and that the surgeon would be able to find the cause of my pain and help me become pain-free again.
When I reflect on the laparotomy I had in 1970, I now realize that I thought the surgeon could *fix* my problem (chronic pain) - and get the same results that a mechanic gets when he *fixes" cars. Little did I realize that when a surgeon performs surgery, the result of the surgery cannot be compared with the result that happens when a mechanic *fixes* a car
