I don't know if adhesions can cause cysts but I can tell you that there are doctors who can perform your surgery without opening you up and just doing laparoscopic techniques. I just had major abdominal surgery and they had referred me to a minimally invasive surgical team and they were able to repair 8 hernias and remove 5 hours worth of adhesive disease all with laparoscopic surgery. They put in a mesh to help keep adhesions from forming and are doing some other little things to help also. I would check around and see if you can't find a good team who specializes in laparoscopic procedures.

One side thought, did they tell you what kind of cyst it was? Are they sure there isn't a hematoma? I had two large cysts removed last year and developed a hematoma which they decided not to drain because they said infection could result or another hematoma could form. The "type" of cyst is important.
