son has adhesions in knee

My 11-yr. old son had knee surgery following a skiing accident to
repair a tibial fracture. We are struggling to regain range of motion
(can't get past 65 degree bend). He uses a CPM machine at home. He
goes to physical therapy which is more like physical torture. They just
keep trying to bend it until he is screaming and sobbing. It seems so
barbaric!!!
The orthopedic surgeon says to keep on doing it to break the
adhesions. I don't know how much more he can take. We are going to
therapy every day now. We are also starting with a chiropractor who
does active release technique to break the adhesions. Any advice?!!!
