what makes the pain stop

I have been living with adheisons from a ruptured appendix for 5 years
now. I sometimes cannot stand the pain, but sometimes it will stop for
about a month or 2. I have injections into the site and sometimes
excercise but am wondering what it is that causes them to stop hurting
for a long time? I don't think it is the injections because there is
almost never relief right after an injection. I know the pain is worse
from sitting (like in a computer chair). I am planning a trip to
Germany next week and am worried about the flight. It killed me going
to Vegas from Florida and this flight is even longer. Any suggestions?
