living with them for awhile may be acceptable, however, they don't "repair" themselves. There is a significant chance, depending on how weak your abdominal wall is already, that it could enlarge and get worse. My cousin had a small umbilical hernia last year and waited until a month ago to have it fixed. By the time they got in there, it covered a 10" X 12" area!

I'm not saying this could or would happen to you, but ask your doctor what he feels your risks of waiting too long are.
