Can adhesions disappear?

I developed adhesions following removal of a gangrenous appendix. The
adhesions caused a partial bowel obstruction and I had a laparoscopy in
June. About 2 weeks later I had worse pain than before and am now
booked for a laparotomy next week. However in the last week I have been
virtually pain free (even at night when the pain was severe) and I'm
wondering if anyone has had or heard of adhesions spontaneously
disappearing or am I kidding myself as I'm desperate to avoid surgery.
