>>I've had this same experience. I had my appendix removed age 9 and had a
complete small bowel obstruction aged 29. I was in a right state, ng tube, central line in neck, morphine pcas. I also then got MRSA and the wound opened and had to be left that way for 6 months. As a result, I've become full of adhesions. I've had 4 trips to theatre now for laparotomies and laser removal of adhesions and treatment with teflon mesh. I've been taking tramadol, diclofenac acid and amitriptylline for pain ever since. The pain drives me mad as it is relentless. I've found a veggie diet and high fibre help as painkillers constipate, which in itself, can cause an obstruction. My surgeon is on the NHS, Mr. Simon Dexter and he is a star! First name terms, no airs or graces and he tells it like it is. He's completely understanding about adhesions and will see me at a days notice (almost impossible on the NHS). He referred me to a chronic pain consultant who has just implanted a spinal cord stimulator to help me with the neuropathic pain and adjusted my drugs for bowel transit pain. I am having a few teething troubles with the scs but am due another operation to correct this but it definitely helps with pain, it also acts as a distraction for the bowel transit pain so its less noticable.

Hope this helps someone. I'm chuffed to bits to find a forum. I couldn't find anything in the uk.

Best wishes,
