Briefly my history leading up to my adhesions. It started with a
gallbladder attack a little over 2 years ago. I have since had my
gallbladder removed, 2 ERCP's to remove more gallstones, repair of an
abdominal incisional hernia, full hysterectomy(including ovaries) and 2
laprascopic abdominal surgeries to remove abdominal adhesions that keep
attaching to the small oval Kugel mesh hernia patch. My last surgery
was Nov 2008 and I currently am suffering of abdominal pain daily that
feels like more adhesions. I decided to refer myself to a different
surgeon after mine kept insisting on waiting to see if I get better on
my own. He was also talking about removing the hernia patch and moving
it to another layer of tissue(muscle layer) to stop the adhesions. He
says it is impossible for the adhesions to form on this layer of tissue.
So I also wanted a second opinion on this as well. I went to KU Med
Center(Kansas City, MO) and saw a surgeon who specializes in hernia
repairs. He was reluctant to do more surgery so far but recommended 3
different things to try. He sent me to a pain specialist to get pain
injections. This was to help with some 'nerve-type' pain I was also
having right on top of where the hernia patch is located. He also put
me on a pain medicine to help with this nerve pain(Lyrica). Also
recommended that I start physical therapy to help with the adhesions. He
doesn't seem to think the pain I am having are from adhesions but from
my week abdominal wall. So the physical therapy is to strenghten my
abdominal wall and help me to move since it hurts to stretch upwards.
The physical therapist is also doing Ultra Sound on my abdominal area
where I am having all the pain. I have been for 8 visits and so far
this physical therapy has not helped at all. Has anyone else tried this
treatment for adhesions? If so, has it helped? Also does anyone have any
input on the idea of removing this hernia patch and replacing it whether
it be a different type of patch or move it to another layer of tissue?
Thanks!
