Effect of Hormones

I was looking back on some of the old posts. Several people have mentioned that their pain seems to be worse either around the time of their menstrual period, or when it would have occurred, had they not had a hysterectomy. (and still have ovaries) I have noticed that I have this phenomen too. At the last lap they told me I had very little endometriosis present so what is acting up cyclically like this? I am wondering if it is the effect of the hormones. Somewhere I read that progesterone causes the intestine to absorb extra water, which accounts for the tendency towards constipation premenstrually and during pregnancy when progesterone is very high. Maybe when the intestine absorbs water the bowel gets heavier and this would pull on the adhesions more, causing increased pain, or perhaps the excess fluid makes the walls of the intestine thicker which might make it easier to obstruct. Don't know if this is true or not.
