I attend a lot of medical conferences for OBGYN.net and I am most impressed with the IPPS http://www.pelvicpain.org group. Even though their conferences up to now have been quite small with typically no more then 100 attendees they have clinical insights that I have not seen at any other conferences.
I believe this is due to a truly integrated multi-disciplinary and diagnostic approach they have adopted. The medical professionals who participate in IPPS are actively looking for answers from both within and outside of their particular area of speciality. I am truly amazed how much folks like Dr. Carter, Dr. Perry, Dr. Seltzer and the rest of them know about subjects like physical therapy, psychology, pharmacology, etc.
Read their mission statement, it is great:
"Chronic pelvic pain affects millions of women. However, new surgical and medical therapies are available which may offer hope for women suffering from chronic pelvic pain. The International Pelvic Pain Society was incorporated to allow physicians, psychologists, physical therapists and basic scientists to coordinate, collect and apply this growing body of information, and to serve as a forum for professional and public education. In doing this, we hope to be able to provide more relief and a more normal lifestyle for our patients."
Without a doubt I would recommend any doctor who is active in IPPS -- unfortunately today there are only a few but hopefully that will change in the next few years.
