I'm surprised that the anesthesiologist hasn't given you anything to prevent the nausea. When I had surgery for the first time since age 8, I mentioned that I threw up back then and even though they said that the anesthesia is different now, they gave me something before hand to prevent the nausea from happening. I asked for it before my second surgery and they gave me something then as well. If I remember correctly, the first time it was added to the IV, the second time they gave me something to drink (which I thought was unusual since you're not even supposed to drink water beforehand). However, my third surgery, in a different hospital, when I mentioned it, the anes. said she would give me something after the surgery if I did get sick. Fortunately, I didn't need it. But with your history, I'd insist on it beforehand, unless you have some other medical issue that for some reason prevents it, and I don't know what that would be.
