Fibrin Glue and Fibrin sealant are not known as " super glue." How would Fibrin Glue ( also known as Fibrin Sealant ) be effective on adhesions? This product prevents bleeding from occuring. There are very few surgical procedures in which this product is used. The 12 articles ( below ) will give you some idea as to what procedures Fibrin Glue is used for. Dr. Bradley's use of fibrin sealant is the only evidence, which I have been able to find, that fibrin sealant has been used to prevent adhesions in the abdominal/pelvic cavity.

Dr. Harry Reich and Dr. Jay Redan - from the NEW Adhesions Unit in Scranton, PA - believe that ADHESIONS FORM AS A RESULT OF ANY BLOOD or other debris that is left in the abdominal/pelvic cavity. Therefore, these adhesion specialists try to be as meticulous as possible * throughout the entire surgical procedure * - by continually moistening the tissues and at the same time removing every trace of blood or other debris.

Marla said, "Adhesions are neither a wound nor do they bleed." BUT blood/bleeding is believed to be the cause of the adhesions in the first place. When the blood or bleeding is taken care of properly, chances are that NO adhesions will form...or...adhesion formation will be greatly minimized. Since I am not a medical professional, I have tried to answer your question to the best of my ability.

Yes, I understand it's use for closing wounds and stopping bleeding. But adhesions are neither a wound nor do they bleed. How would super glue be effective on adhesions?

Question - How does any of this apply to using glue in the peritoneal cavity. I mean think what would happen if it got on your intestines. Ewww.

ANSWER: I actually remember Dr. J. Glenn Bradley saying that he has used fibrin glue in the peritoneal cavity - to stop the bleeding.

Someone suggested, "Why don't they use glue?" Here is evidence that glue is already being used...a special kind of glue - fibrin glue - for special kinds of surgical procedures!!
