----------------------------------

Response to your question about IgG and IgA: ---------------------------------- Immunoglobulin is a general term for an antibody. There are five ---------------------------------- classes of immunoglobulins/ antibodies, two of which are IgG and IgA. The basic function of immunoglobulins is to neutralize or kill toxic substances entering the body or to kill microbacterial organisms. Elevated IgG's are found in infections of all types, liver disease, malnutrition or rheumatoid arthritis. Negative IgA's are found in chronic sinus and pulmonary diseases, abstinence from alcohol for one year by alcoholics, during immonosuppresive therapy, gastroenteropathies or immunologic deficiency states.
