Pencil like stools need to be evaluated with a colonoscopy. If your GI doc hasn't done one -- NOT a sigmoidoscopy, but a complete colonoscopy, insist on one.

Don't let your age keep this critical test from being done.

I have had pencil stools from scar tissue and adhesions. I know that it was the scar tissue because after adhesions were removed the bowel changed back to a normal size.

I have also had colon cancer and, sadly, know women as young as you who have also had colorectal cancer.

Particularly if there is any history of uterine or colon cancer in your family, this is a critical test.
