Many women have been sterilized unnecessarily!!!!

Beverly Doucette ( ) posted the following in September 2000. Her message is so important that it needs to be repeated often!!

Women, who suffer from adhesions, are far too often violated when surgeons indiscriminately perform hysterectomies as their way of relieving their patient's pain . Surgeons like this start to remove totally healthy organs as they try to figure out the source of the pain, which the patient complains about. The key words here are "TRY to figure out" -- NOT firmly diagnose -- but TRY to figure out !! As a result, many women have been sterilized unnecessarily!

A 32-year old woman in my home town had this happen to her! Her OB/GYN called her a "whining vagina" because he said that all she does is whine about her vagina!! Yes, he is still practicing here. PRACTICING, I might add strongly; because he surely isn't experienced, is he!! This kind of treatment would never happen to a mentally challenged women in an institution...NOT at all! Women, who seek the services of a "supposedly" high quality surgeon in their attempt to find medical intervention for their pain, are sterilized after all diagnostic tests result in "negative findings" for abnormal pathology!!

There are far too many "supposedly " skilled surgeons, who know all about adhesions-related disorder ( ARD )! But these "supposedly" skilled surgeons will do anything -- including lying, unnecesary surgeries, and surgeries for money -- but what is in the best interests of their patient. They will suggest a diagnostic laparoscopy...which in and of itself is good...because a diagnostic laparoscopy is the only way to determine what could be causing pain.

When "supposedly" skilled surgeons do a diagnostic laparoscopy -- and find adhesions in their patient's abdominal cavity -- they will go ahead and start to lyse ( cut ) adhesions without FIRST discussing this medical condition with the patient...AFTER the "diagnostic laparoscopy" has been concluded. A "diagnostic laparoscopy" IS a "look and find" procedure! A "diagnostic laparoscopy" IS NOT a "let's go in and just do what we want to do before we discuss it with this "bird brain"...because WE are the surgeons!!!

PLEASE, if you suffer chronic pain and your surgeon suggests scheduling a '"diagnostic laparoscopy" as the final diagnostic test, INSIST that they do nothing until they have discussed all clinical findings with you. If they say they've found NO reason for your pain and all they encountered were adhesions...RUN FOR THE DOOR... hospital gown and all!! You might get picked up for indecent exposure; but a night in jail is still better than having a surgery with that surgeon!!!!!

When a surgeon goes ahead and lyses ( cuts ) adhesions -- when all that he/she was supposed to do was to perform a diagnostic procedure -- who gave this surgeon permission to do an adhesiolysis? Isn't it necessary to perform diagnostic tests prior to performing a hysterectomy? Before performing a diagnostic laparoscopic procedure, isn't it protocol to at least take biopsies of tissue prior to performing a hysterectomy ? How about doing an ultrasound procedure to determine the endometrial lining thickness or other abnormal changes of the uterus...and on and on...

When all of your diagnostic testing is negative and you continue to present with pain, if you're seeing an OB/GYN of this low calibre then... without so much as a pause...he/she will tell you that your reproductive organs are very likely the source of your chronic pain. This is a set-up for a hysterectomy!!

It MUST be the female organs...even if adhesions had been found in the previous surgery. If surgeons didn't think adhesions could cause pain, why would they even lyse the adhesions; and if surgeons lysed the adhesions...because they thought they caused pain...then why would a woman need a hysterectomy...when she presents with the same or similar kind of pain as previously? Might that pain be caused by...tah dah...adhesions???? If surgeons know that adhesions cause pain, then they surely know that the adhesions will come back following an adhesiolysis. What is wrong with this picture??

Well, when you go to a shoe salesman, you're looking for shoes...right? You are expecting the shoe salesman to sell you a pair of shoes; because that's why you went to the shoe store. You would be offended if he didn't want to sell you shoes!

So, you have pain and you go to a surgeon who does this sort of thing to women. What do you expect them to offer you as a recourse to your pain and suffering...and OB/GYNS are surgeons. That, in and of itself, is a good thing; BUT most of the surgeons we will ever visit for our chronic pain are NOT skilled or knowledgeable in dealing with adhesions. This is especially true of people, who go to a surgeon who is NOT skilled in dealing with ARD...with the full knowledge that they do in fact have a history of adhesions. What do you expect them to offer Of course, it will be surgery; and it will either be a diagnostic procedure, adhesiolysis, or hysterectomy. Once they have done all that to you, they do know that your adhesions will return even worse.

DO NOT let a surgeon tell you that he/she doesn't know about or have an understanding about adhesions. THEY ALL know about and understand adhesions. Once they have removed your gall bladder, your appendix, your ovaries and tubes, your uterus, your cervix, part of your bowel, and in some cases your urinary bladder...when all is said and done...and they offer to do another diagnostic laparoscopy in an attempt to find the cause of that still lingering pain...and they have to lyse through a few hundred adhesions as they are looking for the "cause" of that ever present pain...if they still don't get it, they are either the most dense human beings ever to walk the face of this earth or they are the lowest form of human being to walk on the face of this earth -- because they are doing it for the money !!!

Once this final surgery is done and you're just about as empty as one can be -- unless you're a male -- then they will send you to a psychologist; and you are started on the Dr. to Dr. game -- but at least that surgeon is all done with you; because he /she can't help you any more than they already have! Nice of them for helping, huh!!

What has been done to an adhesion-sufferer continues to happen all the time to adhesion-sufferers. No valid pathology for the hysterectomy. You still present with pain; and then the door is shut in your face. If anyone thinks for one second that what I am saying is not true, then think about this for a minute:

When all diagnostic testing produces negative results for the cause of our pain and we have an adhesiolysis, some of us feel relief; and then the pain gets worse. We, who suffer with adhesion pain, are able to understand that our symptoms get worse after we have an adhesiolysis procedure; and yet we go through it again and again with promises of relief from pain ( as a result of removal of organs ) which don't work. If WE can figure it out, why can't the surgeons? Are we of greater intelligence? Did WE study medicine to know this?

When some of us go to the most skilled surgeons in the world for the highest quality adhesiolysis existing today...and actually get well following that procedure...what did they do that the others didn't do? By the time I got to Dr. Reich I had few organs left!! In no way could he ( nor would he ) find something else to blame my suffering and pain on except what WAS there...and it was adhesions!!

Shame on you surgeons, who perform unnecessary hysterectomies on unsuspecting women. Shame on all of you!! For all of you who have experienced this tragedy, GOD will pin these surgeons on what they have done to you; and if they did this to you, they did it to many other women as well...and they will pay for it.

Go to Dr. Reich! Make your insurance company pay for your care; and better yet, make your surgeon pay for it; because adhesions for the most part result from the negligence of unskilled and lazy surgeons, who won't clean up the abdominal cavity after themselves! Slob surgeons are the cause of post-surgical adhesions!!

Ladies, if you are suffering from undiagnosable chronic pelvic and /or abdominal pain and a hysterectomy is being considered, PLEASE tell the OB/GYN that you will in fact be securing a copy of the pathology reports following the procedure...and it had better show that you indeed needed that hysterectomy and that adhesions were not found during the surgey!! You tell them that and mark my words...YOU WILL NOT HAVE AN UNNECESSARY HYSTERECTOMY by that surgeon!!!!!!
