Dawn:

I have replied to you separately about your experience with doctors who see your use of narcotics for chronic pain as drug abuse rather than legitimate medication. Thanks for sharing. It will help me with the research for an article I am doing on medical professionals who "abuse" chronic pain patients. I wanted to tell you that I have found a fantastic group of Pain Management specialists in the Phila. suburbs (about a 2 hr drive for you however) They are Anesthesiologists specializing in Pain Management. Not only do they prescribe pain meds but they do nerve blocks and other procedures to combat pain. One of the doctors has a wife who suffers from chronic, intractable pelvic pain and so he's twice as understanding

I had to sign a compliance agreement that says I will take only the amount of meds prescribed, not double my doses and run short before the month is up. And if I do, I agree not to expect them to re prescribe any medication until I am legitimately due for refills. And that includes "oops, my cat ate the pills" or anything short of a plane crash and proof that your meds were part of the wreckage! I have lived within the agreement for 6 years and have been 60% pain free as opposed to 0% before I found them. They are compassionate, knowledgable and will adjust and experiment with meds until the right combination is found for you.

If you or anyone from my general region are interested in knowing the name and number of these doctors, please respond. I am also the new contact person (IAE) for the ARD group here in Penna. and I am hoping to offer support and assistance to others like myself.

NO ONE should have to live with pain. Let me know if you want the info. on my doctors. I'm sure they can refer you to equally as good pain specialists in your region.

Regards

I am a 35 year old mother of 6 who developed pelvic pain immediately following an A/P Vaginal repair. I have been jerked around by insensitive Doctors who either have preconcieved notions as to what the pain is, or they have decided that my pain is psychosomatic and are unwilling to treat me.

Unfortunately I am also a survivor of sexual assault by a medical professional. I therefore have "issues" with trust in regard to male practitioners as well as the lithotomy position. I have been scheduled and cancelled laparoscopies 3 times in the past 6 months related to anxiety issues with the general anesthesia/lithotomy combination. I am trying to find a sensitive and compassionate doc in the long island area to just do an exploratory laparotomy to find the cause of this pelvic pain and possible have an end to this 15 month nightmare.

I am under the care of a pain management practice that has now placed me on a Duragesic patch which helps some. Initially I was taking Methadone, but I refused to take it following my last hospitalization due to the way I was treated as the medication has a bad connotation. I was called an addict, I was told that I was drug seeking, and was also told that I was dillusional because of it.

I do hope some one out there care recommend some on the eastern seabord who is kind.

please feel free to Email me at momofverymany@aol.com

Thank you, Dawn
