[] Dr. Matthias Korell is Chief of Surgery at the Klinikum Duisburg (medical center) at Duisburg, Germany.

Dr. Korell is recognized as being "one of the four" best laparoscopic adhesion specialists in the world!! I met Dr. Korell for the very first time on November 6, 2000. Dr. Korell performed my adhesiolysis on November 7th - which he followed up with a second-look laparoscopy on November 14th. Dr. Korell is a very friendly person. He speaks very good English - as do many of the German people. Most importantly he treats his patient with kindness and respect!!

[] Our TOTAL COST for " everything " came to less than $7000 (U.S. dollars); which included:

* Certified copies of birth certificates

* Passport photos

* Expedited passport fees

* round-trip airfare for both of us from Minnesota to Dusseldorf, Germany.

* all pre-operative tests (EKG, Chest X-ray, Blood tests)

* hospital (inpatient care): 5 days for the first surgery; and 3 days for the second-look.

* Dr. Korell's fee,

* anesthesist's fee

* use of the surgery room,

* very nice accommodations for me and my husband in the Nurse's Residence from November 3-21. Our rooms were cleaned on a daily basis.

* food, cab fare, bus fare, etc.

* We applied for debit cards (Master Card) instead of Traveler's Checks. When we used our debit card to pay for anything, our payment was deducted from our checking account at our hometown bank.

[] We also did some sightseeing; and the following expenses were also included in our TOTAL EXPENSES:

1.) We went to the city of Cologne (Kohn) where took a bus tour of the historical part of the city. The hospital had set up the bus tour; and Dr. Korell went with us. Others, who did not know him, would never have guessed that he is a famous doctor. He is just as common as can be.

2.) We took a taxi to Mulheim to take in a craft fair.

3.) On our last weekend we took a train from Duisburg to Ghent (spelled "Gent" in Belgium) - where we spent the weekend as guests of Sylvie and her husband from Belgium. They provided us with a guided tour of Ghent and Brugge, Belgium.

The complexity of your surgery and your lifestyle will determine the total cost for your trip to Germany for surgery. My surgery was not as complex as the surgeries of some of the other women; and our lifestyle in Germany was very conservative.
