Dear Kel, Hi, nice talking to you. Psychiatrists can be very helpful, both with emotional pain problems and presrciptions for pain medications. Some of them are nice and know their "stuff". Others are in serious need of mental help themselves. It's good to have recommendations. Most doctors assume that after your operation with them you will be pain free, but after your operation with other doctors you will still have pain. I'm generalizing cynically, sorry. It's so hard, because one day you have a good situation, and then something happens, and your pain gets worse and bamm. No meds, all pain. That's happened to me too. Don't just assume going to a counselor is bad, because mine helped me tremendously. She also gave me a letter saying my mind was fine, but I was in severe pain. This caused one pain management place to immediately want me to see there "shrink". They figured if I walked around with a letter certifiying I was okay, I was really nuts. Go figure. Love, Sally
