Joyce,Hi, I am sorry this reply is so late, I kinda got behind with the board.I was on just vicodin for a while then went to methadone, and now I am on 30 mgs of oxycontin 2 times a day with vicodin for breakthrough. For me, It has been better this way. the pain relief really does last longer. And I saw in your post that you are afraid of addiction. You won't get addicted but you will build a tolerance and doses have to be adjusted, don't be afraid to take your meds, when you don't take them on the weekends, then you are missing out on precious family time and that is not fair for you or your family. Personally I am happier and can do more with the longer acting meds.Take care and hope this helpsA new friendLinda Garcia
