Carol, It sounds like it could be a hernia, since the pain returned after you carried a shelf to the porch. Lay your hand over the incision when you are laying on your back., or over the right side of you belly, by the bottom of your ribs. Then give a strong cough.

Do this several times, and see if when you can you feel a bulge. It will feel like something pushing out when you cough. If you do, you have a hernia.

You could also have adhesions. Was the surgery an open surgery, or did they do it thru the belly button? It is more likely that it is adhesions if it was done as an open surgery, but nothing is inpossible. Good luck..... Jeanne
