Hey Pam, Sorry to hear about all you've been through. Unfortunately, more of us can attest to similar stories than of proper treatment. Also, having had surgery

three years ago may have helped your uterus problems, but as research shows,

once a person is known to have adhesions, subsequent surgeries result in MORE adhesions. It's a vicious circle, really. I can't say that you would have been definitely better off if you'd had surgery three years ago, but I can say that you most likely would have had a worse problem with adhesions today. It sounds like you really need an adhesiolysis and it needs to be done by a surgeon who specializes or is VERY familiar with adhesiolysis. When you go back to the doctor for your six week discussion of options, you need to ask if there is anyone in your area who is very familiar with adhesions. Also, it would be a very good idea to ask for a referral to a pain management specialist. Your pain needs to be properly controlled. The issue of addiction is a moot issue in the occurrence of chronic moderate to severe pain. You can't live a productive life with this kind of chronic pain.

I've been on pain management now for 2 years and will be having my 7th surgery in the near future. It's been a long haul and I'll be having the last three inches of large bowel removed along with some of my small bowel as well. We all just have to do the best we can and remember that we are our

own advocates. Don't hesitate to stand up for yourself. Don't hesitate to take your research with you to your doctors. When you read responses in our adhesion list that relate to problems you're having, take copies of your letters to your doctor's office. Don't be afraid to ask them to read what you bring. Between all of us at this site, we have more years of experience with adhesions than any doctor in the US. All of us can relate very similar experiences and we all learn what helps and what doesn't. You're the employer of your doctors. They are your employees. Don't hesitate to expect a good job from your employees. If you treated your job like some of these doctors have treated you, you'd be fired for not doing your job. I'll keep you in my prayers and keep us all posted. Rebecca Tucker, BSN, RN, MNEd.
