I'm not sure that adhesions can cause recurring infections, however, my last
visit with the motility specialist at Cedar Sinai mentioned that with the
"kinks and obstructions from the adhesions" that there was most likely a
buildup of bacteria in the bowel. I recently had osteomyelitis in the
cervical spine and then a bit more recently, an infection in the blood
stream. Neither of the bacteria cultured out were normal flora bowel
bacteria, but he mentioned that he felt that I could have developed both
infections because of the bacterial build up. Also, I have had fellow
adhesion sufferers who also developed multiple systemic infections because
of the adhesions causing necrosis of the abdominal organs and fistulas
between organs that were not supposed to be connected. So, I suppose you
could say that some of us do develop recurring infections.
I would also guess that because of most of us having very poor nutritional
status because of not being able to digest foods properly, that our immune
systems are impacted and likely cause us to be much more susceptible to
environmental viruses, bacteria, and our own body's normal flora growing out
of hand. I can't count the number of yeast infections I've had over the
years. Our systemic pH levels must be affected in many ways as well.
I sure hope you find a reliable physician who validates your suffering. I've
lived for three years, now, pretty much always on narcotic pain meds. It is
not a life I would want anyone else to live and know that several of us on
this list, even, live this way constantly. Our thoughts and prayers are with
you, Amber.
