Hello. How on earth have I missed this website? Now that I've found it
where do I go? My story began several years ago when I had a laparotomy
to remove a large (24cm) mass on one of my ovaries. Pathology showed it
was a form of ovarian cancer, so several months later I was admitted to
a cancer center where they performed a second laparotomy to perform a
cancer staging. And again, several months after that, another
laparotomy to remove more 'masses' which were benign. This was 2-3
years ago and now I have considerable excruciating pelvic pain. The
surgeons have told me it is caused by adhesions and neuropathy.
I understand that there is no treatment for this pain, and that additional
surgery will give temporary (a couple of months, maybe) relief but then
more adhesions will form. I have been seen by gynecologists, pain
specialists, oncology specialists etc. Currently my GP is prescribing
60 mg of oxycontin daily, along with amitriptylene, and effexor (the
latter for depression). I have tried neurontin with no success. I am
unhappy taking oxycontin and concerned about addiction (and also my GP
is unhappy prescribing the oxycontin for the same reason). But, what to
do instead? No one ever talked to me about adhesions, and certainly
didn't tell me about the chance that they could cause so very much pain.
It destroyed my marriage (I am divorced now, living in a different
country than my ex-husband), is systematically working towards
destroying my job, and has left me financially bankrupt. It (the pain)
has just permeated every aspect of my life, even my dreams at night, in
my dreams I am experiencing this excruciating pain. There just seems to
be no relief, even with the oxycontin. If anyone here has any
suggestions that I might share with my doctor I would appreciate it, I
am ready to try (almost) anything.
I welcome any suggestions, personal stories or links to information. There
seems to be little written about this handicap. Any information at all
would be very appreciated. Thank
you.
