Katie, I recommend that you consult with a female gynecologist that is well known and trustworthy to get a second opinion. If I hadn't gotten a second opinion from a reputable female gyn, I would not be alive today. The male gyn I had been seeing for ten years informed me my Pap smear was allright and the menopause symptoms I was experiencing was nothing to be concerned about. On my first visit to the female gyn, she recognized the symptoms I described as endometriosis. She said a Pap Smear doesn't show endometriosis (first sign of cancer). She did a check for endo which came back positive. She took me off hormones as she said they would cause cancer to spread rapidly. Within a few weeks I had a total hysterectomy. If you're getting a hysterectomy because you have cancer cells on your uterus, you may want to consider getting a total hysterectomy (also removing the ovaries), then you won't have to worry about getting ovarian cancer in the future. A nurse friend of mine had a total hysterectomy when she was in her 30's. She said she told the doctor to remove the ovaries too.

At this point, no, I have NOT had surgery with Dr. Redan ... only met with him twice last year for consultations. I am considering surgery and he said that he believes that I would benefit from it; however, he wants Dr. McCarus to remove my uterus and I am not ready for that.

Dr. Redan performed two laparoscopic adhesiolysis on my abdomen but the adhesions grew back. He removed my navel during the last surgery and now my abdomen looks weird/strange. I've had doctors tell me he should have made me a fake navel.

I read a statement he made on the http://www.adhesions.org site where he said it made no difference if the surgery to remove adhesions is done cutting one open or laparoscopic, they come back.
