Kris, I am so excited for you! I did look up this Dr. Eric Johnson- he is listed as a provider at my insurance companies' website so if I were somehow able to become a patient of his he would be an 'in-network' provider.

I'm very tempted to try and make an appointment with him- my insurance company does not require a referral to see a specialist which, if my impression is right, surgeons are specialists that can both diagnose as well as treat conditions.

As I said, I'm gun-shy about this as I was always under the impression that patients don't make appointments with surgeons- their other doctors are supposed to do it. So, if I were to be so bold as to make an appointment with him, I can just imagine being asked 'What are you doing here without a doctors' referral?' and I will have driven all the way across town to Plymouth (that's where it said his office was) for nothing. Like Wendy who is in Stillwater, I'm on the east side of town in western Wisconsin. I'd have no problem going to Plymouth though if I thought I'd be treated with respect and my symptoms and suspicions were treated seriously and properly investigated.

If you think of it, although I know that right now you have bigger things on your mind, ask him if he would be willing to talk to patients like me via phone or web so we could determine if it is worth the time and effort to come and see him. Maybe at one of your follow-up appointments- especially if your treatment proves successful!

Best of luck!!!!!!!!!!!
