Hi Toni: Sorry to hear you are still feeling quite lousy. Oxycontin is a very commonly prescribed painkiller. It is similar to oxycodone, or else oxycodone is the generic form and oxycontin is the trade name. Anyway, oxycodone is the generic name for tylox, percocet etc. I think you said you've had this before. I guess the oxycontin is longer acting so you don't have to take it as often. You asked how long they can medicate you? Probably forever, unless you obstruct. It doesn't sound like they are going to go for anything else.

You know what I realized? I think that increased fruits and veggies (for fiber) actually make this problem worse! I've read that they can cause an increase in gas and also that fiber keeps the colon slightly distended. Well, if you have adhesions on your bowels and gas or fiber keeps them distended there is going to be discomfort. Someone once posted that she felt better on a liquid diet. On the other had, constipation will cause them to be painful as well. Sounds like there is no solution! I plan to ask the colo-rectal guy all of this. These doctors (he works with a surgeon, did you ever check out the website I gave you?) also treat problems such as IBS and Crohns, they don't just do surgery.
