Sue Anne, I recently went with a friend who is suffering from kidney stones, to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. This hospital is considered to be one of the best in the country and on the cutting edge of most areas of medicine. Her urologist told her she needs to drink as close to two litres of water BEFORE SHE GOES TO BED, as she can. He said she will be up a couple of times at night, but it sould help keep the calcium in her system from collecting in her kidney's and forming stones. Thought I'd pass this gem along to you, and hope it helps.
